The fun sporting event known popularly to LGBT communities in Asia as The Straits Games is set to come back in September this year and this time Thailand’s Koh Samui is hosting this annual gay event. Scheduled to commence from 24 to 27 September, the Asian gay games will feature Badminton, Bowling and Volleyball. This year The Straits Games, Thailand edition is set to introduce Beach Volleyball and Biathlon (Beach Swimming and Running) to this gay-friendly sports event.
Originated in 2002, the Straits Games started as a yearly sports event between Malaysia and Singapore – the two countries along the Malacca Straits. The event aims at fostering friendship and promote a healthy lifestyle among members of the LGBT communities. The event generated so much interest from neighboring countries such as Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, Netherland and the United States of America.
The Straits Games slated in Koh Samui will be hosted in several venues across the island including Major Bowling Tesco, Indoor Volleyball Stadium at Teeparatpittaya School, KC Beach Club for beach volleyball and Samui Sport Center for badminton.
The event does not only feature sports activities. It also serves as the perfect opportunity for networking and socializing. Part of the event are other activities such as welcome reception party, tele-matches, clubbing events, sightseeing tour, cabaret/ice party, beach party and White Night Gala dinner.
Ticket price for this 4-day event starts from 2,900 THB/person, inclusive of a welcome kit, snacks at the opening day, drinks at welcome party, entrance fee for the cabaret show, BBQ buffet and canapes at Beach Pool party and buffet dinner at Gala dinner. For those who are interested in participating in the sports events and activities, there is an additional fee of 400 THB to cover for other incidental expenses such as shuttle service, unlimited drinks and extra cost of sport facilities, .
