Having earned the title, “The Land of Smiles”, Thailand had always lived up to its reputation for being a friendly destination for everyone regardless of race, age, and gender. The proof is Thailand’s high tourist arrival numbers year after year. The country is known to be friendly to its visitors especially to gay couples seeking a pleasurable holiday in a destination offering gay-friendly facilities and activities. The list below includes eight of the most hospitable honeymoon destinations for LGBT lovebirds in Thailand.

  1. Chaweng, Koh Samui

Unlike the other travel destinations in Thailand, there is no exclusively gay beach in Koh Samui. However, Central Chaweng Beach, around the end of Soi Lamdin, has gained a reputation for being the beach of choice for same-sex couples.

There are also numerous gay-friendly hotels and restaurants including the Banyan Tree Samui and the Four Seasons. These hotels offer the ultimate privacy and luxury for same-sex couples looking forward to having an enjoyable stay at Koh Samui in a romantic setting.

  1. Patong, Phuket Island

If you are a gay couple looking for high-intensity sensual excitement, you can’t go wrong with Patong on Phuket Island.

Phuket has a well-deserved reputation for having the most spectacular scenery and the wildest nightlife among all the other islands in Thailand. At any time of the day, you will find an LGBT party in full swing at Paradise Complex – the center of gay entertainment. This place offers all kinds of same-sex facilities ranging from guesthouses, go-go bars to a gay sauna.

The town of Patong is located on the west side of the island. It has a vibrant nightlife hotspot making it attractive for business owners to operate their businesses and cater to gay tourists for many years. The world famous open air drag show at the Kiss Bar exemplifies the place’s genuine friendliness to the gay community.

Patong is easily accessible from Phuket Airport, about an hour drive away.

Pattaya features the famous Dongtan Gay Beach and offers a lively gay scene centered around the Boyz Town District and Sunee Plaza.

For a more mellow experience, you and your new spouse can always head off to the decidedly low-key Jomtien Beach, or spend a day together observing the colorful wares and products sold at the floating market.

  1. Ko Pha Ngan Island, Surat Thani

Once a month, on the night before, during, or after the full moon, literally tens of thousands of partygoers descend to Haad Rin Beach in Koh Pha Ngan for the aptly named “Full Moon Party”. The party island is located in the southern province of Surat Thani and is one of the wildest outdoor, all-night beach parties in the entire world.

Although not an exclusively gay event, the party has been a favorite of LGBT folks since its first launching in 1985. All hotels, bungalows, and bed and breakfast facilities on the island are no strangers to gay couples.

An airport on the island is currently under construction, but for now the easiest way to Koh Pha Ngan is by first traveling to the airport on neighboring island of Koh Samui. From there, you can take a ferryboat to Koh Pha Ngan. The information desk at the Koh Samui airport will help you make these travel arrangements.

Of course, no honeymoon in Thailand would be complete without a trip to the capital city of Bangkok – one of the most vibrant metropolitan cities in all of Southeast Asia.

If you’re looking for a night out on the town, the club “Soi 2 to 4” in the neighborhood of Patpong is one of the city’s hottest gay night spots.

The city of angels is packed with gay-friendly accommodations ranging from bed and breakfast inns to high-end luxury hotels. Not to mention a number of cosmopolitan clubs and rooftop bars where gay couples can spend a stylish romantic night out together.

A mere one hour flight from Bangkok, the peaceful and tranquil Chiang Mai is a perfect choice for gay couples who want to get away from the pandemonium of the capital. Chiang Mai, being the cultural capital of Thailand, features numerous beautifully-preserved Buddhist Temples and Art Galleries. The city is surrounded by lush, rolling green hills where water buffalo roam freely.

Chiang Mai also offers a more gentle LGBT experience at a popular spot around Chang Pueak, Nimmanhaemin and Santitham roads where there are plenty of hotels, chic cafe, pubs and restaurants.  It is said that the most gay-friendly location in the province is at The Rachamankha Boutique Hotel – a must visit place for gay lovebirds.

For gay couples who are planning to travel by car through Thailand on their honeymoon, Koh Chang is a scenic four and a half hour’s drive from Bangkok. Its proximity to Cambodia makes it a good base point for couples who want to explore the neighboring country as well.

Although the island is secluded, Koh Chang offers all kinds of accommodation from the luxurious boutique hotels to simple guesthouses. The most popular beach on the island is Hat Sai Kaew (White Sand Beach). Kai Bae Beach is the most popular LGBT spot in Koh Chang.
